Yet another horrifying case of violence against women was reported in Uttar Pradesh as a girl was set on fire because she resisted eve teasing.
The girl suffered 90 percent burn injuries after the man, angered by her refusal to his proposal, sneaked into her house, doused kerosene oil on her and set her on fire. At present, she is in a hospital battling for her life.
Times Of India reported that the girl from Loharra village in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh, was being repeatedly harassed by a man named Arjun, who stalked and pestered her. Arjun despite being married also proposed her.
The girl's family restricted her from stepping outside her house, stopped her from going to college and also registered a complaint against Arjun at the local police station. However, no action was taken. Instead Arjun infuriated with the girl, set her on fire.
The police defended themselves by saying before they could take an action against Arjun the incident happened. However, after media started highlighting the case, senior authorities in Lucknow have instructed the police to act swiftly on the case.
