Sometimes even political position isn’t enough to protect a woman from harassment, as BJP national secretary Vani Tripathi discovered while travelling in Delhi. A group of men allegedly attempted to grab her and harass her after her car was involved in a minor accident. According to the BJP leader, she was caught in a traffic jam when a SUV rammed into her car from behind resulting in the two vehicles getting interlocked with each other. While Tripathi was in the car, her chauffeur stepped out to deal with the situation and was instantly surrounded by a group of four to five men. The BJP leader said that her chauffeur had the presence of mind to lock the car due to which none of the men were able to get to her. However, she said what shocked her more was the apathy of other motorists who drove by despite seeing that a woman was possibly in danger. “Nobody stopped on the road and some people even cursed us for causing a jam,” she said. Tripathi said that after the men attempted to grab her she had called the Delhi Police, who took some time to reach the spot due to traffic. The BJP leader has said that she will not press charges against any of the five persons saying that the police would in all likelihood thrash them all night, which she did not want. Curiously enough, despite not registering a case she wanted the police to investigate who the SUV belonged to.
The BJP leader claimed that a group of men attempted to molest her after a minor accident in Delhi.
