Delhi Police submits report to MHA on Jaitley's call record case

New Delhi: Delhi Police on Monday submitted a status report on BJP leader Arun Jaitley’s phone call record case to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), a police officer said. According to the status report, two people have been arrested in the case and two others are on the run and untraced. A few others might also be involved in the case. The MHA had asked Delhi Police about the status of the case after BJP leaders on Saturday accused the government of trying to gain access to Jaitely’s phone call records. According to police, Jaitley’s call records were accessed by Dabas to check his communication with an unidentified man in Uttarakhand. The man had assured Dabas that he would settle the policeman’s property deal in Uttarakhand through the senior BJP leader. Dabas also runs a real estate business with two others in Uttarakhand. He had invested in the state, but was unable to recover the money. Dabas had sought Jaitley’s call records to check whether the man was in touch with the BJP leader. However, when Dabas tried to access Jaitley’s call records, the telecom company contacted the Delhi Police officer whose e-mail was being used for seeking Jaitley’s call records, police said. Though Jaitley has not filed a complaint, police registered a case a few days ago to ascertain whether any official had sought details about the call records or if it was a case of impersonation. Dabas’ aide Neeraj was arrested on Monday. He had sought the call records of several other people from Dabas. IANS
