We thought we had seen the worst and the most hilarious side of our nation’s police force when they were busy hunting for
Azam Khan's missing buffaloes. But the Delhi police has outdone the UP police, as impossible as this may seem. According to a report in the Indian Express Delhi police has formed a crime team to investigate the case of ‘Missing Jackfruits’ which were stolen from Janata Dal United’s Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Prasad’s Tughlaq Road bungalow. So judicious were the police, once the “complaint came in, police dispatched a team from its fingerprints bureau and one from its crime investigating department,” to the MP’s bungalow. The case at hand: The jackfruit tree had 9 fruits one day but the next day two were missing. [caption id=“attachment_1580667” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Who stole the Jackfruit? Reuters[/caption] The report also quotes a senior police officer as saying in all seriousness, “The MP’s personal assistant called the police station to report the theft. When a team of officers reached the spot, it was found that two jackfruits were missing from the tree, which had nine fruits. The MP reportedly noticed it in the morning and alerted his personal assistant who in turn informed the police. Based on a complaint from his PA, we have registered a case of theft and are investigating the matter.” And if you thought that this wasn’t hilarious enough, then do note that a total of “10 officers scoured the garden for clues that would lead them to the culprit(s).” Add to that, “Fingerprints were lifted from the garden and the backyard to establish the path that thieves might have taken.” The report adds that “the investigators have been asked to be on their toes to nab the accused.” So who is the prime suspect at present? According to officer, “Close inspection of the crime spot and investigations led us to a trail of footprints. The footprints, measuring approximately six inches, appears to be those of children who may have jumped the fence to steal the fruit. But it raises serious questions about the security at the bungalow.” Security concerns aside however, this does raise the question on how often the MP counts the fruit on the trees in his garden. Maybe his constituents should give him some more work to do perhaps?
