Communal disturbances in UP because of very poor law and order, says Governor Ram Naik

Jalaun (UP): Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik on Sunday said that incidents of communal disturbances in the state are due to “very poor” law and order situation. “The law and order situation is very poor in the state… [caption id=“attachment_2482086” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![Ram Naik in a file photo. Ibnlive ](https://images.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Ram-Naik-Ibnlive.jpg) Ram Naik in a file photo. Ibnlive[/caption] I have requested the chief minister that it should be improved. The communal disturbances which are happening are due to bad law and order situation,” Naik said. He was talking to reporters after inaugurating ‘Kala Mahotsav’ in Orai town. Yesterday, two police officials were injured in violent clashes that broke out between two communities in various parts of Kanpur district over alleged desecration of a religious poster, forcing the administration to impose prohibitory orders in the area. While BSF and PAC staged a flag march in Kannauj, where prohibitory orders were clamped, following the death of a person in a clash during a Durga puja immersion procession. The governor’s comments have come at a time when Rajbhawan and the state government are not on the same page on various issues. The choice of Lokayukta has run into rough weather with the Samajwadi Party government insisting on a particular name over which Naik has reservations citing lack of consensus among members of the selection committee. Besides, Naik has refused to clear names of five candidates for the Legislative Council in the nominated members category, raising questions over their expertise for qualifying in that category. Certain bills passed by the state legislature too are awaiting his assent. The governor has in the past too made critical comments on the law and order situation in the state. PTI
