AIMIM leading in six seats

As of 1.45 p.m. on Sunday, the Asaduddin Owaisi-led All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) was leading in six of the nine assembly constituencies it contested in the Telangana Assembly elections.

 After the eighth round of counting, Akbaruddin Owaisi, the younger brother of AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, leads his nearest competitor, BJP’s K Mahender, by 29,444 votes from his Chandrayangutta segment.

Candidates from AIMIM were ahead in Bahadurpura, Charminar, Malakpet, Nampally, and Yakutpura, but trailed in Karwan, Rajendranagar, and Jubilee Hills.

Results won’t impact INDIA bloc, says Sharad Pawar

The outcome of the Assembly elections in four states, according to Nationalist Congress Party president Sharad Pawar, will have little affect on the INDIA bloc, which includes more than 25 opposition parties led by the Congress.

Following preliminary results, the Bharatiya Janata Party is poised to usurp the Congress in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh while retaining power in Madhya Pradesh. In Telangana, the Congress leads on 65 of the 199 seats, while the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, which has ruled the state for the previous decade, leads on 39.

“I don’t think this will have any impact on the INDIA alliance. We will be meeting at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence in Delhi. We will speak to those who know the ground reality. We will be able to comment on it after the meeting only,” Pawar said.

Even as early voting trends on Sunday indicated that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party was poised to maintain power in Madhya Pradesh with a decisive victory over the Congress, Union Minister Faggan Singh Kulaste was trailing in Niwas, Mandla district.

People have reposed their faith in “Modi’s guarantees,” chimed together BJP leaders as the party appeared set on the path of victory in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh assembly elections.

“The election results show people accept Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guarantee of delivering on guarantees,” senior BJP leader and Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said here.

“People have blessed BJP in three states, endorsed Prime Minister Modi’s leadership and rejected Congress’ false promises,” Joshi said.

Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Raman Singh said in Raipur, “People have reposed their trust in Modi’s guarantees.”

PM Modi likely to address BJP workers

With the BJP leading in three states in the assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to meet party members here on Sunday evening, according to party sources.

Rajkumar Roat of the Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) was declared the winner of the Chorasi assembly constituency in Rajasthan by the Election Commission of India on Sunday.

This was the state’s first election outcome, with voting on 199 of the 200 House seats held on November 25. Roat won the seat by 69,166 votes, according to the Election Commission. He got 1,11,150 votes.

Rajasthan Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Gupta said 12 to 17 rounds of counting of votes have been completed and the final result is expected to be declared by 1.30 pm.
