Baksa district alone accounted for 38 deaths, while seven died in Kokrajhar as suspected NDFB(S) militant’s unleashed violence in the two districts since May 1. The situation in the trouble-torn area was limping back to normal with necessary steps being taken to rehabilitate inmates of Bhangarpar relief camp at Baksa. Police claimed the violence was unleashed by the NDFB(S) but the victims alleged that supporters of a particular political party had attacked them as they did not vote for the party’s candidate. An investigation into the violence has been handed over to National Investigation Agency (NIA). Meanwhile, leader of the principal opposition party in the state AIUDF’s Badruddin Ajmal today visited Nanke Khagrabari area at Narayanguri and distributed relief material to the affected persons under the aegis of two NGOs – Ajmal Foundation and Markazul Ma’arif.
