As Dengue cases cross 500, east Delhi suspected to be epicentre

East Delhi seems to be the new epicentre of dengue outbreak in the capital. Over 90 people have tested positive for the mosquito-borne disease in the last three weeks.

The number of Dengue cases has hit a season-high at 500, the Times of India reported today. East Delhi seems to be the new epicentre of dengue outbreak in the capital. Over 90 people have tested positive for the mosquito-borne disease in the last three weeks and the numbers are piling up in the region— divided into two municipal zones Shahdara (south) and Shahdara (north). On Wednesday alone 34 fresh cases were reported in Delhi. [caption id=“attachment_495344” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![](https://images.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Dengue_Reuters_25July4.jpg "Dengue_Reuters_25July") Reuters[/caption] While 31 fresh cases were reported on Wednesday from three Municipal Corporations areas, two were reported from New Delhi Municipal Corporation area and one from Delhi cantonment. According to the data available, 513 cases of dengue have been detected in Delhi since the outbreak of the disease early this month. South Delhi Municipal Corporation reported the maximum number of cases at 201, while 191 cases were detected from the North Delhi Municipal Corporation area. 102 cases have so far been reported from East Delhi Municipal Corporation. Other cases were reported from NDMC and Delhi cantonment area. Last year, the national capital had reported 216 cases of dengue, including eight from outside, and three deaths. In 2010, there were 4,108 cases, including 24 from outside, and five deaths while the figures for 2009 were 29 dengue cases and no death. (With inputs from PTI)
