Wonder Woman 2: Patty Jenkins to earn over $7 million for sequel, making her highest paid female director

After giving DC its most successful film Wonder Woman this year, Patty Jenkins is officially set to return as the director for its sequel. She has closed a deal with Warner Bros to helm, co-write and produce the follow-up to the Gal Gadot-starrer, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Image from Twitter[/caption] Jenkins will reportedly receive a seven-figure directing and writing fee, which is said to be in the range of $7 million to $9 million. This will make her Hollywood’s highest paid female director. Notably, she was paid only $1 million for the first installment of Wonder Woman, and her contract did not explicitly include a role in the sequel. The first film has earned Patty Jenkins the distinction of being the director of the highest grossing film made by a woman, leaving behind  Sam Taylor-Johnson’s Fifty Shades of Grey. It recently crossed the  $410 million mark in North America, and its overseas box office collection is pegged at over $800 million. Wonder Woman is now the 11th most successful superhero film in terms of box office collections, beating fan-favourites like Deadpool, Spider-Man 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy. Marvel’s The Avengers is at the top spot, and it is followed by Avengers: Age of Ultron and Iron Man 3. The Wonder Woman sequel was confirmed last month at San Diego Comic-Con and a 13 December 2019 release date was also announced. Gadot has also been tapped to return for the sequel.
