We all know that Reddit users are some of the funniest people on the internet. So can you imagine what happens when a question about Indian news story about religious fundamentalism gets accidentally posted in a subreddit about American baseball. Screengrab from the Reddit page.[/caption] On 22 July, a story titled ‘India would be a Hindu nation by 2020’ was
posted in a page a
bout
Washington Nationals MLB
team in the US. The description that followed was this “Calling the victory of the BJP- led alliance in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections as initiation of a “revolution” in the country, VHP patron Ashok Singhal on Saturday said by 2020, India would be a Hindu nation.” While Washington Nationals fans looking at it for the first time may have been bemused by the misplaced story, they soon made up for it with some hilarious replies. Singhal’s statement thread got so popular that it became the most up voted post in r/Nationals subreddit history! We have compiled a list of the funniest comments on that thread. Have look and have a good laugh! This response that started off as a serious statement, till it went on to more important things. From my understanding almost 80% of the Indian population practices Hinduism, with a majority of the rest being Muslim, many of whom are immigrants from nearby Muslim countries. This seems like a pretty reckless statement by Singhal. Do you think he’d suggest we make a move on Aroldis Chapman? (FYI, Aroldis Chapman is a Cuban professional baseball player) The ones that stayed true to the theme of baseball in Hinduism Talk about reckless, the Reds are looking for a young outfield bat in a swap for Chapman, and Singhal knows that we don’t really have any of those to spare. As much as I am loath to participate in the Kimbrel talk, he might be a better fit. As we learn from the Bhagavad Gita, time is the destroyer of all, and we need to accept a second tier reliever like K-Rod or Axford, one that would be willing to pitch the eighth. But what is their BABIP? Can they help Desmond hit the ball? What type of prospects are coming out of India and how will they be effected by Hinduism? The users then got cheeky about India’s connection with baseball The only participation India will ever have in baseball is on this page. ;) Cherish while it lasts. When will India replace Cricket with baseball? Some were polite about the mistake lol wrong sub-reddit buddy So we can talk anything anywhere ? While other tried to make light of the matter Just to be clear, these are the Indians who dance to Jai Ho and not the type that were killed my ‘Murica’s forefathers.\ To understand just how popular that one epic, erroneous subreddit became, have a look at the other threads it spwaned, even two days after it started
