Amid the nationwide violence in Nepal, a rumour circulated saying that 32 missing bodies had been found in the ruins of the parliament.
Mobs on Tuesday set fire to Nepal's parliament in Kathmandu. They had also breached the barricades and vandalised the premises Monday. The subsequent crackdown led to at least 17 deaths in Kathmandu — two deaths elsewhere in the country took the national toll that day to 19.
A day after such rumours began circulating, the Nepali Police on Wednesday published a fact check on X.
In a post in Nepali, the police said that the claim that 32 missing people were found dead inside the parliament were “misleading” and the image in circulation was from a previous event from a protest in another country.
