External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday said that the BRICS originated when the G7 refused to admit new members and as the bloc evolved, it gained a life of its own and others recognised its value.
Speaking at the Global Center for Security Policy in Geneva, Jaishankar said, “…There was another club called G7 and you won’t let anyone else enter the club. So we went on to form our club…As it started it gained a life of its own over the period of time. Others saw value in it as well….”
Talking about the future of the global order, Jaishankar credited the city of Geneva, which hosts many UN organisations, more than any other to really construct what is a world order.
