In his ambush of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa over what he called ‘White genocide’ in the country, US President Donald Trump cited a compilation of video clips and print-outs of articles on the internet as proof.
Ramaphosa is on a visit to the United States and met Trump at White House on Wednesday. The US-South Africa relationship is at its lowest point over Trump thrashing the country over the purported ‘White genocide’ and South Africa pursuing a case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
Trump has falsely claimed that the Black-majority South Africa systematically discriminates against Afrikaner people , who are White South Americans of European ancestry, and they are subjected to systematic killings. He has carved out an exception for them in his refugee ban and has fast-tracked their path to citizenship.
In addition to the compilation of videos (watch below), Trump also displayed print-outs of articles and said: “I don’t know, all of these are articles over the last few days, death of people, death, death, death, horrible death.”

Trump further claimed that White South Africans were “fleeing because of the violence and the racist laws”.
Trump added, “This is sort of the opposite of apartheid. What’s happening now is never reported. Nobody knows about it.”

Vincent Magwenya, a spokesperson for the Ramaphosa, told ABC News that Trump’s so-called proof was a “poor compilation of old videos” and a “complete lie”.
In the meeting with Trump, Ramaphosa pushed back against Trump’s claims and said that crime in South Africa was a nationwide problem and not specific to White people.
Ramaphosa said, “There is criminality in our country. People who do get killed, unfortunately, through criminal activity are not only white people, majority of them are Black people.”

Referring to the Afrikaner people in his delegation, Ramaphosa said, “I would say if there was Afrikaner farmer genocide, I can bet you these three gentlemen would not be here, including my minister of agriculture. He would not be with me. So, it’ll take him, President Trump, listening to their stories, to their perspective.”
