British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Thursday said that India and the UK are “building a new and modern partnership” as he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his first visit to India.

“It was an honour to host PM Narendra Modi in the UK in July, and I’m delighted to make this return visit. Our nations are building a new, modern partnership focused on the future — creating jobs, driving growth, and deepening our special relationship,” Starmer said.

Starmer is on a two-day visit to India and is accompanied by a delegation of over 100 business leaders. He held bilateral talks with PM Modi today, where the two leaders discussed trade, business and ties.

During a joint press conference, Starmer talked about the India-UK Free Trade Agreement, signed in July during PM Modi’s visit. “We signed a major trade deal with India in July… but the story doesn’t stop there.”

PM Modi, at the same time, echoed these sentiments, calling India and the UK “natural partners” whose collaboration is key to bringing stability to the volatile global landscape.

The British Prime Minister mentioned how his country is working on announcing a deal to make Bollywood movies in the United Kingdom. Starmer’s remarks on the matter came after he paid a visit to the Yash Raj Film Studios on Wednesday.
