Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir was ridiculed in Washington on Tuesday as his motorcade entered a hotel in the US city. Chants of “shame on you” and “free Pakistan” were heard from Pakistani American citizens who were protesting Munir’s arrival in the country.
Some people were also heard saying “civilian supremacy in Pakistan.” Pakistani protestors gathered in front of Washington’s Four Seasons Hotel with a vehicle that carried a message for Munir, calling the army chief a “mass murderer” and carrying a slogan “democracy dies when guns speak.”
Munir is on a five-day visit to the US. Last week, the White House rejected claims that the army chief was invited to the US for the military parade hosted by President Donald Trump.

The reports triggered a backlash in India as well as among the Pakistani-American community in the US, who accuse the general of undermining democracy back home and leading a crackdown on the political party of jailed former PM Imran Khan.
