A mall in Pakistan’s Karachi was looted by a mob even before it could start operating.

Last week, a new clothing accessories and homewares store was set to be opened in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Johar. The store-owner had advertised the mall ahead of the opening and had also announced discounts on the occasion.

While the owner must have expected a good turnout with the discounts, he would not have expected that a mob would descent upon the store and loot it.

ARY News reported that not just people attracted by discounts but baton-wielding persons also descended upon the store and looted and vandalised the mall.

The footage of the mall have surfaced on social media in which a large mob is seen at the mall. The aftermath of the loot and vandalism is also seen where the contents of the store are scattered all over and staffers are seen lamenting over the loss.

Witnesses were quoted as saying that there were no police personnel to contain the situation.

In a video, one person said that he worked for 20 days straight to prepare for the opening and was disappointed by the loot and vandalism on the day of the opening.

“In Pakistan, there is already bare minimal investment. Those who do investment for the sake of the people [are treating like this]. The people of Pakistan need to understand that if they would not improve, how will things improve?” said the person.
