WATCH: Japan Airlines plane hits jet loaded with relief material for earthquake affected, turns into fireball

A Japan Airlines aircraft was on fire as soon as it touched down at Tokyo’s Haneda airport on Tuesday. The blaze broke out soon after it collided with a coast guard plane on the runway at the airport.

The plane, Japan Airlines Flight 516, took off from New Chitose airport in Hokkaido at 16:00 local time. It collided with a coast guard plane that had about six people on board.

“All 379 passengers and crew have escaped from a Japan Airlines aircraft that caught fire at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport,” a JAL official says.

Meanwhile, Japan Coast Guard official said six people were on board the coast guard plane which was preparing to fly to Niigata for earthquake relief.

The Tokyo Fire Department said one crew member evacuated and the remaining five have been found, but details of their conditions are unknown.

Visuals of the Japan Airlines flight catching fire at Tokyo airport, showed flames coming out from the aircraft’s windows as it taxied on a runway.

The fire subsequently engulfed the area around the wing.

The plane is still burning and rescuers are trying to douse the blaze.

Many fire trucks are on site and spraying foam and water on the aircraft to control the blaze.

For the unversed, Haneda, being one of Japan’s busiest airports, sees high traffic, especially during the New Year holidays.
