Asserting that his country will come up with a strong response to the attacks by Hamas, Israel’s envoy to India Naor Gilon thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian people for their support. “Early this morning, when Israeli citizens were still in their beds. Hamas, the terror organization from Gaza, perpetrated a dual attack, both rockets towards Israeli civilians and ground attacks by terrorists against civilian population. Children, women, elderly, they have killed many and captured others. Israel will retaliate. Israel will go after the perpetrators and make sure they cannot repeat this kind of atrocities again,” Naor Gilon said in a statement on social media platform X. “Thank you to the Indian people and to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for your very strong moral support to Israel. We will prevail,” he added.

At least 100 people were killed and over 900 wounded in Israel as 5,000 rockets were fired by militant group Hamas in a surprise attack. Israel and Hamas have once again escalated their conflict as the Palestinian militant group initiated a significant aerial and ground operation from the blockaded Gaza Strip, marking one of its largest attacks in recent years. Sirens were activated across Israel, reaching as far north as the disputed city of Jerusalem, starting at approximately 7 a.m. on Saturday. The Hamas terror group published footage showing its members capturing a number of Israeli soldiers during an attack on a military base on the border with the Gaza Strip on Saturday. The multi-pronged attack, coming a day after Israel marked the 50th anniversary of the surprise invasion on Yom Kippur, appeared to have caught the Israeli military and security forces completely by surprise. Other clips circulated online have purported to show Israeli civilians taken hostage by the terror group. Arabic media claimed 52 Israelis had been captured. Some of those captured appeared to have been killed. According to Hamas claims, this barrage consisted of 5,000 rockets launched from the blockaded enclave. Concurrently, there has been a ground infiltration by Hamas militants into Israeli towns and villages located on the periphery—an unprecedented development in the 16 years since Hamas assumed control of the strip.
