Ever since he announced his Presidential ambitions, Bobby Jindal has been in the limelight constantly, and not always for the right reasons. From jibes over some of his outrageous remarks to Twitter hashtags created to troll him, Jindal has been at the receiving end of the internet’s critics as well. Maybe that’s why he tried his hand at one of the most effective tools to grab eyeballs online — after his not-so-successful #AskBobby stint on Twitter and his failure to make the cut for the August 6 prime-time TV debate among Republican candidates — and starred in a ‘viral’ video in collaboration with Buzzfeed. [caption id=“attachment_2379938” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Screengrab from the video[/caption] The video produced by Buzzfeed is called ‘Bobby Jindal push ups and politics’. If you were still confused about the point of this video, his opening remarks will clear all confusion: “I’m Governor Bobby Jindal and I’m here to take on issues through push-ups” And that’s exactly what he does — he takes on issues, who are people dressed in red t-shirts emblazoned with said ‘issues’ and challenges them to a push-up contest with them. These issues include ‘Taxes’ and ‘Hyphenated-Americans’ played by two young woman, ‘Obamacare’ represented by a young Caucasian man, and Jindal’s infamous ‘2009 State of The Union’ response speech played by a muscle-bound African-American man. By no coincidence, these are issues that cause him consternation. As each issue takes the stage, we see Jindal next to them gurning and flexing his arms like someone preparing to enter a pro-wrestling ring than a debate among second-tier Republican candidates. Oh and we must add, that Jindal took on the challenge in a formal ensemble, complete with a tie, after refusing gym clothes. Coupled with his attire, the elaborate filmy style of the video — full of cheering crowds, slow-mo shots, close-ups of straining participants and dramatic music — makes for a hilarious watch. As for the outcome of the contest, ’taxes’ was the first to bite the dust, followed by hyphenated-Americans and finally, Obamacare hit the mat. Only his ‘closest rival’ State of The Union was left standing. So who won in the end? In a voice-over, Jindal claims, “I think America won in the end!” Are you sure about that, Governor?
