In response to an alleged Israeli attack on Iran’s Syria consulate on April 1, the Iranian government launched hundreds of drones and missiles at Israel on Saturday night.
Speaking with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu late on Saturday, President Joe Biden informed him that the United States would not take part in any Israeli counter-offensive against Iran.
CNN and the Wall Street Journal reported that senior U.S. officials informed their counterparts that the United States would not take part in an offensive response against Iran.
The chief national security spokesman for the White House, John Kirby, stated on ABC’s “This Week” program on Sunday that while the US will continue to support Israel in defending itself, it does not want to go to war with Iran.
“We don’t seek escalated tensions in the region. We don’t seek a wider conflict,” Kirby said.
