US President Joe Biden spoke to Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday and reiterated that America will continue to “have Israel’s back.” “The United States stands with Israel, we will never fail to have their back. When I spoke to Prime Minister Netanyahu this morning, I told him that the United States stands with the people of Israel in the face of these terrorist assaults,” Biden said.
He added, “Israel has the right to defend itself and its people, full stop. I affirmed to Prime Minister Netanyahu that the United States will continue to make sure Israel has what it needs to defend itself and its people.”
11 US citizens die in Israel On Monday, Biden announced that among those killed in the Israel-Palestine attack were 11 American citizens while an unknown number remain missing. “As we continue to account for the horrors of the terrorist assault against Israel this weekend and the hundreds of civilians murdered, we are seeing the immense scale and reach of this tragedy. Sadly, we now know that at least 11 American citizens were among those killed,” Biden said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
The US President also said that it is “likely” that Americans are among those being held hostage by Hamas and that his government is working with Israeli officials on “every aspect of the hostage crisis.” In a statement, Biden said, “The safety of American citizens—whether at home or abroad—is my top priority as President. While we are still working to confirm, we believe it is likely that American citizens may be among those being held by Hamas. I have directed my team to work with their Israeli counterparts on every aspect of the hostage crisis, including sharing intelligence and deploying experts from across the United States government to consult with and advise Israeli counterparts on hostage recovery efforts.”
