Yet in another mass shooting in the United States, four people were killed and at least 20 others injured after gunfire erupted at a crowded bar on South Carolina’s St. Helena Island, officials said on Sunday (October 12), as reported by The Associated Press.
The incident took place early Sunday at Willie’s Bar and Grill, where deputies arrived to find several people with gunshot wounds amid a large crowd.
“Multiple victims and witnesses ran to nearby businesses and properties seeking shelter from the gunshots,” the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement on X.
“This is a tragic and difficult incident for everyone. We ask for your patience as we continue to investigate. Our thoughts are with all of the victims and their loved ones,” it added.
Four people were pronounced dead at the scene, while at least 20 others were injured. Four of the wounded remain in critical condition at local hospitals. Authorities have not yet released the victims’ identities.
“Completely heartbroken to learn about the devastating shooting in Beaufort County,” US Rep. Nancy Mace posted on X. “Our prayers are with the victims, their families, and everyone impacted by this horrific act of violence.”
