US Republicans and Democrats unite: To stop a Hillary Clinton documentary

US Republicans and US Democrats are finally united on a cause - but it’s not over what you might expect. CNN and NBC have had to pull the plug on a planned documentary on Senator Hillary Clinton, after its director received a backlash from Clinton’s inner circle and the Republican National Committee. Reuters image[/caption] Named ‘Hillary’, the series was planned to be a miniseries which would air in 2014, starring Diane Lane as the former first lady with a story that started in the midst of her husband’s Monica Lewinsky sex scandal. Republicans had threatened to pull out from any planned GOP primary debates to be aired on the television networks. An NDTV report says: “As Republicans publicly worried that the projects would cast Clinton in a favorable light, aides trying to guard her image privately grumbled about the projects, according to a person close to Clinton who would not discuss private conversations for attribution.” “After reviewing and prioritising our slate of movie/miniseries development, we’ve decided that we will no longer continue developing the Hillary Clinton miniseries,” NBC said in a statement. According to the report in NDTV , Reince Priebus, the chairman of the Republican National Committee, called the planned films a “thinly veiled attempt at putting a thumb on the scales of the 2016 presidential election.” Charles H. Ferguson, an Oscar-winning documentary maker, had been commissioned to examine Clinton’s life. CNN declined to respond to questions about the Clinton team’s contact with the network. In a statement, it said, “We understand and respect’’ Ferguson’s decision not to move forward. Read the full report here .
