Hunter Biden, the son of US President Joe Biden, has been held guilty in the gun-possession case.
Hunter has been held guilty on all three counts that he was accused were. The case against him is related to the possession of a gun while he was a drug addict in violation of concerned laws.
The charges against Hunter were:
Lying to a licensed gun dealer
Lying on federal gun application form for applicants’ screening Illegally possessing a gun
Hunter lied that he was not an addict when, in reality, he was an addict. Under the US laws, addicts cannot own guns.
Following the conviction, Hunter now faces 25 years in jail and a fine up to $750,000, according to CNN.
Hunter is the first immediate family member of a President of the United States to be convicted with their parent still in office. The case, however, dates to 2018 when Joe Biden was not the president.
Following the verdict, President Biden in a statement said that while he accepts the judgement, he stands with his son.
He said, “I am the President, but I am also a Dad. So many families who have had loved ones battle addiction understand the feeling of pride seeing someone you love come out the other side and be so strong and resilient in recovery. I will accept the outcome of this case and will continue to respect the judicial process as Hunter considers an appeal.”
This is not the only case that Hunter face. In September, another case related to alleged federal tax fraud is set to start.
