A small plane with two people onboard crashed in Philadelphia on Friday. According to NBC News, the crash took place just 30 seconds after the aircraft took off and managed to set several homes ablaze. Responding to the incident, Philadelphia Governor Josh Shapiro said that he is offering all “Commonwealth resources as they respond to the small private plane crash in Northeast Philly.”
“We’ll continue to provide updates as more information is available,” the Philadelphia governor wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. The crash came two days after the United States witnessed one of the deadliest aviation disasters in almost a quarter of a century. Earlier this week an American Airlines jet carrying 60 passengers and four crew members collided with a military helicopter midair in Washington DC. The helicopter had three soldiers onboard. There were no survivors in the tragic incident.
I’ve spoken with @PhillyMayor and my team is in communication with @PhillyPD, @PhilaOEM, and @PhillyFireDept. We are offering all Commonwealth resources as they respond to the small private plane crash in Northeast Philly.

According to NBC News, the plane involved in the Philadelphia crash appeared to be a Learjet 55 that quickly disappeared from radar after the takeoff. As per the report, the aircraft was en route to Springfield, Missouri, and was registered to a company operating as Med Jets.
The plane crashed near a mall
The crash occurred less than three miles from Northeast Philadelphia Airport, known for serving business jets and chartered flights. Photos and videos taken at the crash site showed multiple homes burning after the impact. According to the flight data, the small plane took off from the airport at 6:06 pm (local time) and disappeared from the radar for about 30 seconds after climbing to an altitude of 1,600 feet.
The plane eventually crashed into a busy intersection near the Roosevelt Mall, an outdoor shopping centre where first responders were seen blocking traffic. Philadelphia’s emergency management office issued an alert stating that the roads in the area will remain closed.
