As Obama, Clinton, and Hillary, entered the US Capitol rotunda in Washington, D.C., for the 78-year-old’s historic swearing-in ceremony on Monday, loud boos echoed from the crowd at the Capitol One Arena.
Numerous prominent political figures attended the event as Trump was inaugurated as the 47th President of the US, but one former first lady was notably missing.
Michelle Obama had already indicated before the inauguration that she would not be attending Donald Trump’s swearing-in ceremony.
While she did not provide a specific reason for her absence, multiple reports suggested it stemmed from her disapproval of the 45th (and now 47th) president.
Before the inauguration, Michelle Obama also missed former President Jimmy Carter’s state funeral, where she would have been seated next to Trump. Her advisers attributed her absence to a scheduling conflict.

More ShortsWhile it’s customary for former presidents and their families to attend the Capitol to witness the incoming commander-in-chief take the oath of office, Michelle is not the first former first lady to skip the event.
Four years ago, the 47th president and his wife, Melania Trump, did not attend Joe Biden’s inauguration after President Trump refused to acknowledge the election results.
On her husband’s inauguration day, Melania wore a dark navy coat paired with a matching hat featuring a white stripe, along with dark navy heels and black gloves. Her hat, in particular, sparked comparisons to the McDonald’s character Hamburglar.
