A United Airlines flight made an emergency landing in Waco, Texas, on Sunday evening after encountering severe turbulence that injured five passengers, according to a report, citing officials.
According to a NBC News report, citing FlightAware data, SkyWest flight 5690, which was operating as United Express, a United Airlines regional flight service network, took off from Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri at 4:48 pm CT and was headed to George Bush Intercontinental Airport
The Bombardier CRJ-200 faced turbulence during its journey and was forced to land at Waco Regional Airport, reported NBC News, citing confirmation by SkyWest Airlines in a statement.
SkyWest did not specify the location where the turbulence took place.
“Medical personnel met and evaluated passengers, and five passengers were transported to the hospital,” NBC News quoted the statement as saying.
“SkyWest and United are making sure all customers get the care they need and dispatched another aircraft to fly the customers from Waco to Houston,” the statement added.
Five passengers suffered minor injuries, while the flight carried a total of 29 passengers and three crew members.
The Waco Fire Department responded with five units and 13 personnel, according to the report, citing Acting Fire Chief Robby Bergerson.
