US President Donald Trump chastised the media for their ’never-ending" coverage of the Signal chat leak scandal , involving top officials from his administration. In a post on TruthSocial on Sunday, Trump lauded Senator Markwayne Mullin, a Republican senator and member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, after he pushed back on questions from NBC News over the matter.
“A GREAT job by Senator Markwayne Mullin on beating back Kristen Welker’s, and the Radical Left’s Witch Hunt, on the never-ending Signal story,” Trump said in his post. “They just don’t stop – Over and over they go!” the president wrote in the post. Last week, Trump and his allies were sharply criticized after it was revealed that The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, was added to a group chat on Signal with agency heads discussing a forthcoming attack on the Houthi rebels in Yemen.
Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth along with other Trump officials have maintained that no classified information was shared on the group chat. However, the second round of screenshots released by The Atlantic showed Hegseth detailing the time, location and weapons the US planned to use in the attack.
Trump believed it was ’not a big deal'
The president has dismissed the incident as “not a big deal” and is looking for the news to move on to something new. However, Democrats are calling for a thorough investigation of the matter.
“This story and narrative is so old and boring, but only used because we are having the most successful ‘First One Hundred Presidential Days’ in the history of America, and they can’t find anything else to talk about,” Trump wrote.
“The Fake News Media has the lowest Approval Ratings in history, and for good reason,” he concluded. Trump’s remarks came a week after a Politico report suggested that US Vice President JD Vance and other top advisers of Trump suggested the POTUS fire National Security Adviser Mike Waltz over the scandal. Waltz was the one, who accidentally added The Atlantic editor to the Signal group chat.
