President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday joked about the possibility of running for a third term during a speech to House Republicans in Washington, D.C.
“I suspect I won’t be running again, unless you say, he’s good, we got to figure something else,” The Guardian quoted Trump as saying.
The constitution prohibits Trump from running for re-election, since he previously served one term in office that lasted from 2017 till 2021.
Celebrating his victory day with Republicans in the House of Representatives, who have a good chance of maintaining control of the chamber as November 5 election results trickle in, Trump said, “Isn’t it nice to win? It’s nice to win. It’s always nice to win.”
“The House did very well,” he added.
After meeting House Republicans, Donald Trump headed to the White House to meet outgoing President Joe Biden.
The traditional meeting, in which the pair will discuss the transfer of power, comes as Senate Republicans vote on their next leader.
Trump’s motorcade rolled through the heavily guarded White House gate and the former and future Republican president was greeted in the Oval Office by Biden, a Democrat who defeated him in the 2020 election.
Outside on the White House driveway, a massive crowd of journalists gathered in anticipation of the big event.
