America is set up to elect its next president when the country goes to polls in November.
Vice President Kamala Harris and former president Donald Trump faced off in a televised debate hosted by ABC News on September 10_._
This debate came months after Trump and President Joe Biden’s encounter in July.
However, this time the roles were reversed with Harris taking on her Republican rival with confidence and repeatedly getting under Trump’s skin.
The former president, meanwhile, offered conspiracy theories.
The issue of race also came up in the debate.
When asked why Trump had publicly questioned Harris’ dual heritage as a Black and South Asian woman, he said, “I don’t care what she is.” He further said, “I read that she was Black. Then I read that she was not Black.”
The two candidates also engaged in a fractious row over abortion, an issue where polls show Harris has the upper hand.
Trump defended the US Supreme Court’s 2022 ruling that ended constitutional protection for abortion and sent the issue back to individual states, arguing, incorrectly, that it was an outcome desired by both Republicans and Democrats.
Let’s take a closer look at some of the most memorable quotes from the presidential debate.
