Vice presidential candidates for the upcoming elections in the United States Tim Walz and JD Vance are set to lock horns today (October 1) in a televised debate. CBS News in New York City will host the event which will be broadcast at 9 pm EST (6:30 am IST on Wednesday).
According to a BBC report, Walz was not a leading contender for the position but it was his viral appearances on television, deriding Republicans as ‘weird’ and his ability to defend liberal policies in a moderate-friendly language that won Harris over, urging her to pick him as the VP candidate.
Meanwhile, political pundits believe that Vance is an ideological kindred spirit, whose focus on trade and immigration matches Donald Trump’s top political priorities that played in his favour for contending the position.
The 90-minute event will be moderated by Norah O’Donnell, anchor and managing editor of CBS Evening News, and Margaret Brennan, the moderator of Face the Nation and the CBS News foreign affairs correspondent.
The debate comes weeks after the presidential debate between Democrat Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump held on September 10.
Let’s take a closer look at the two candidates ahead of the debate.
