Former US President Donald Trump hit the magical number of 270 in the 2024 presidential election which was touted as the closest race in the country’s history. US Vice President Kamala Harris’s hopes to be the first female president of the United States were crushed after Trump managed to make a significant dent in the blue wall.

What makes this race so significant is the fact the future Trump administration is expected to be stronger than the one which was in power from 2016 to 2020. There are plenty of reasons for that, but at the heart of it is the fact that Trump will be able to place his strongest allies in almost every US government institution.

Not only this many experts believe that the plethora of cases hurled against Trump has the potential to vanish in thin air as he takes charge in the Oval Office. Here’s a look at the factors which will make Trump’s second innings the strongest one in modern American history.

From Smith to Wray: Trump might go on a firing spree

One of the promises Trump made during the 2024 election campaign was that he would fire Special Counsel Jack Smith “seconds” if he came back to power. “Oh, it’s so easy. It’s so easy … I would fire him within two seconds,” the former president said about Smith, who has charged him in two high-profile cases in the last two years.

Trump has been also seeking the resignation of FBI Director Christopher Wray claiming that he ’lied’ to Congress about US President Joe Biden. After his firing spree, the former president might place his allies in those positions, which will ultimately lead to delay or dismissal of cases against him.

“[D]espite the fact that Special Counsel Robert Hur said, effectively, that Joe Biden is INCOMPETENT, with LITTLE MEMORY, etc., Wray said that ‘it is not something I observed during my interactions with him, which were uneventful and unremarkable,’ essentially stating that he found nothing wrong, mentally or physically, with ‘Joe,’” Trump wrote on TruthSocial in July this year.

Trump’s hold on Supreme Court remains concerning

Since 2023, there have been talks surrounding the retirement of two Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas, 75, and Samuel Alito, 73. The Republicans believed that if Trump came to power he might replace the two conservative justices with two younger representatives.

This has the potential to shape the future of the US Supreme Court and make it conservative-leaning for decades. Not only this but if any of the current liberal Supreme Court Justices leave the post due to health or any other reasons this will give Trump the change to place another conservative judge in the apex court.

It is pertinent to note that Conservatives already have the majority of 6 to 3 in the Supreme Court. This has helped Trump in the past as well. One of the prime examples was the overturning of the Roe v Wade. With the highest American court supporting presidential immunity for Trump, it will be safe to say that the legal crisis for the former president is averted to some extent.

Republicans flip the senate

Even before he reached the 270 mark, the Republicans flipped the US Senate after GOP’s Jim Justice won from West Virginia and businessman Bernie Moreno flipped the Senate seat in the state of Ohio. Not only this, Republicans are now set to vote for the replacement of their longtime leader Mitch McConnell, next month.

In Trump’s first presidency, there were some Republicans who raised voices against the conduct of the former reality TV star. However, most of those big names are out of both the Senate and US House of Representatives. According to ABC News, Out of the seven Republicans who voted against Trump during the impeachment saga, five are nowhere to be found.

Meanwhile, 9 out of the 10 representatives who voted against Trump in the impeachment trial will not be in Congress as well. Hence, it will be “Trump’s Republicans” who will be representing the new US Congress.

As Trump declares himself to be the 47th President of the United States of America, it will be interesting to see what the new Trump administration will have in store, for not only the US but the rest of the world.
