With less than a month until Election Day, Vice President Kamala Harris holds a 3-point lead over former President Donald Trump nationally.

According to The Hill report, citing the Economist/YouGov survey, which was released on Wednesday, 48 per cent of respondents support Harris, while 45 per cent favour Trump.

However, Trump leads among independents, attracting 40 per cent compared to Harris’s 32 percent.

When asked who they believe will win the election, 40 per cent of respondents named the vice president, while 35 per cent selected the former president. About 25 per cent were unsure, reported The Hill, citing the poll.

Harris has a 10-point advantage over Trump among women, while the GOP nominee leads by 4 points among men.

The Democratic nominee also holds a double-digit lead over the former president among those earning over $100,000 annually, while those with lower incomes are more evenly split, according to the report.

The survey shows that Democrats are more enthusiastic about voting in November, with around 68 percent stating they are “extremely” or “very enthusiastic,” compared to 59 per cent of Republicans.

Nearly 60 per cent of voters —57 per cent— indicated they are ready to elect a female president. When broken down by gender, 58 per cent of women and 55 per cent of men supported this idea. Conversely, 23 per cent of respondents felt the US is not ready for its first female leader, while 20 per cent were unsure.

About 53 per cent of Americans expressed hope that the US will elect a woman president during their lifetime, according to The Hill, citing the poll.

The Hill/Decision Desk HQ’s national polling index shows Harris with a 4.2 per cent lead over Trump — 50 per cent to 46 per cent.

The Economist/YouGov poll was conducted between Sept. 29 and Oct. 1 — before the vice presidential debate between Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz  (D) and Sen. JD Vance  (R-Ohio) and after Hurricane Helene hit the Southeastern U.S., bringing deadly wind and flood damage.

The survey included 1,638 likely voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.2 percentage points.
