Defending his Attorney General, Pam Bondi, US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that “nobody cares about” the infamous Epstein Files. Bondi has been facing backlash from Trump’s critics and supporters over how the Department of Justice handled the investigation revolving around convicted sex offender and financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Trump emphasised that no more time and energy should be wasted on the case since no one cares about Epstein. The president was attempting to unite his base through a nearly 400-word post on TruthSocial. “What’s going on with my ‘boys’ and, in some cases, ‘gals?’ They’re all going after Attorney General Pam Bondi, who is doing a FANTASTIC JOB!” Trump wrote in the post on Saturday.
“We’re on one Team, MAGA, and I don’t like what’s happening. We have a PERFECT Administration, THE TALK OF THE WORLD, and ‘selfish people’ are trying to hurt it, all over a guy who never dies, Jeffrey Epstein," he added.
Cracks in Trump’s inner circle
According to CNN, Trump has stood by Bondi even privately while some of his strongest allies question AG’s handling of the case. Not only this, but some members of Trump’s inner circle have also reached out to Bondi’s most vocal critics, asking them to tone it down, emphasising that Trump is not planning to remove Bondi at this moment.
Trump’s support for Bondi is coming at a time when Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino has told people that he is considering resigning from his post amid the clash between the FBI and the Department of Justice. The two strong wings of the Trump administration are sparring over the memo, which concluded that there is no evidence Epstein kept a “client list” or was murdered.
The memo released this week has already prompted fierce blowback from some of Trump’s key allies, including right-wing activist Laura Loomer, who has called for Bondi’s ouster. Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson argued on his podcast that Bondi is “covering up crimes, very serious crimes by their own description."
Meanwhile, speculations surrounding Bongino’s exit became even rife after he did not turn up for work on Friday, Axios reported. Amid the chaos, many are pointing out that weeks before the memo was released, Trump was feuding with billionaire and former DOGE boss Elon Musk.
The Tesla CEO claimed that the president appears in the Epstein files, redacted court documents that reveal the names of his alleged associates and victims. Epstein died after being indicted on federal sex trafficking charges. However, he soon deleted the tweet after the feud between the former friends simmered down.
