As countdown to the Election Day has started, Republican nominee Donald Trump has firmed up his lead over Democratic rival Kamala Harris, according to the latest forecast.
Of the six swing states, Trump is ahead in five and Harris is leading in just one, as per the latest Decision Desk HQ-The Hill forecast.
While Trump has huge leads in Georgia, Wisconsin, and Arizona, Harris has a comfortable lead in Michigan, and is effectively neck-to-neck in Pennsylvania and Nevada.
Here are how the two nominees are pitched in the forecast:
- Nevada : Trump 51%, Harris 49%
- Arizona : Trump 60%, Harris 40%
- Wisconsin : Trump 55%, Harris 45%
- Michigan : Harris 57%, Trump: 43%
- Pennsylvania : Trump: 52%, Harris: 48%
- Georgia : Trump: 64%, Harris 36%
As things stand today, the Republican Party is projected to sweep the 2024 US elections. It’s not just Trump who is projected to win the presidency, but the Republican Party is also expected to win the Senate and House of Representatives.
As per the latest Decision Desk HQ-Hill forecast, the Republicans have 71 per cent chance of winning the Senate and 53 per cent chance of winning the House.
Such a situation when a party controls all three instruments of power, the presidency, the Senate, and House, is called a ’trifecta’. The Republican Party’s trifecta would put unlimited power in hands of Trump which would allow him to paint the United States in his far-right Make America Great Again (MAGA) agenda without any roadblock.
In the election campaign, Trump has said he would go after his rivals upon winning and has said he would rule like a dictator on day one. He has also said he would prefer deploying military against his critics.
