Even within the final 24 hours of the campaign, the 2024 US presidential election remains too close to be confidently predicted.
Democratic nominee Kamala Harris and her Republican rival Donald Trump are essentially tied in decisive swing states, according to the final poll by The New York Times and Sienna College.
Vice President Harris has improved her position in North Carolina and Georgia and former President Trump has eroded her lead in Pennsylvania and maintained his advantage in Arizona, as per the Times/Sienna poll.
Here is how Harris and Trump stand in the latest Times/Sienna swing states poll:
Michigan : Trump +1
Pennsylvania : Tied
Wisconsin : Harris +3
Arizona : Trump + 4
Nevada : Harris + 3
Georgia : Harris + 1
North Carolina : Harris + 3
Even as both Harris and Trump made gains lately, The Times has noted that the leads in all seven states is within the margin of error, which means that the two candidates are essentially tied and none of them could be said to have a definitive lead in any state.
Voters make up their minds, undecided voters favour Harris
Among 8 per cent voters who said they had made a decision about their vote just recently, 54 per cent support Harris, as per the Times/Sienna poll.
Compared to 16 per cent around a month ago, only 11 per cent of voters were found to be undecided in the latest Times/Sienna poll.
While economy remains the top issue across all seven battleground states, in states like Wisconsin where Harris is leading, abortion is now as strong an issue as the economy, as per the poll.
On the other hand, in Trump-leaning swing states, immigration continues to be the driving issue.
The shift is visible among demographics even sharply. While women support Harris, Trump’s support continues to rest on White non-college educated voters, as per the survey.
