As Democratic nominee Kamala Harris struggle to hold on to Black voters, particularly Black men, Trump has piled up endorsements from Black celebrities.
Polls have shown that Harris has significantly lost the support of Black voters, particularly men, over the years.
Compared to 2020 when President Joe Biden had the support of 90 per cent Black Americans, Harris currently has the support of just 78 per cent voters, according to the last week’s New York Times/Siena College poll, which shows that the figures are even gloomier for Black men. The poll showed that Biden had the support of 85 per cent Black men 2020, Harris currently has the support of 70 per cent men.
Separately, a poll by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) said that around one-fourth of all young Black men support Trump.
Even though celebrity endorsements don’t necessarily mean more popular support, it does carry an effect and endorsements from several prominent Black celebrities, such as boxing legend Mike Tyson to rapper Lord Jamar, suggest his rising popularity and acceptance among Black Americans — despite his association with White nationalists.
Fox News has listed the following Black celebrities as supporting Trump:
- Mike Tyson
Tyson endorsed Trump last month
Speaking on podcast ‘It Is What It Is’, Tyson said that ‘it would be nice if he wins".
“I have my reasons [for wanting him to win]…He is just a good man. Listen, I don’t agree with all his s–t. Nobody agrees with all my s–t, but you know, they [are] good people. No one is perfect in this world. Everybody got their s–t, you know,” said Tyson.
Rapper Lord Jamar
Rapper Kodak Black
Former Pittsburgh Steelers Pro Bowlers Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell
New York Giants legend Lawrence Taylor
Former NFL star Herschell Walker
Boxing promoter Don King
Rapper-turned-preacher Mase
In a vide posted by the Trump campaign, King said that Americans “must re-elect him [Trump] to save ourselves”.
“You know, a vote for Trump is a vote for yourself…Because we have to fight the system of lies and the creation of wrong being right and right being wrong …that’s got to be eliminated. And the only one who has the intestinal fortitude to be able to stand up and fight the system like it should be fought,” said King, as per Fox.
