Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu installed a recording device in Boris Johnson’s bathroom in 2017, the UK’s former prime minister has claimed.

Johnson alleged that Netanyahu bugged his bathroom at the British Foreign Office after the Israeli leader used it. The British leader also claimed that his team found bugging devices in Johnson’s private bathroom after the Israeli PM went to the facility. Johnson was Britain’s foreign secretary when he met Netanyahu in 2017.

“Thither Bibi repaired for a while, and it may or may not be a coincidence but I am told that later, when they were doing a regular sweep for bugs, they found a listening device in the thunderbox,” Johnson wrote in his unreleased memoir “Unleashed”, excerpts of which were shared with the Daily Telegraph.

When pressed for further details about his claims by The Telegraph, Johnson said, “I think everything you need to know about that episode is in the book.”

The Israeli Embassy in London has not commented on the allegations yet.

Meanwhile, the tale of Israel spying on foreign governments is not new. In 2019, according to Politico, the country was found responsible by the US for planting cellphone surveillance devices near the White House and other locations around Washington DC.
