Ukraine's involvement revealed in missile strike on Poland

A missile attack in Poland that resulted in the deaths of two individuals has been attributed to Ukraine, as confirmed by a Polish newspaper named Rzeczpospolita. This comes day after Poland hailed progress made during talks with Ukraine in their dispute over grain exports. As per the reports by the daily economic publication, the explosion occurred in the eastern village of Przewodow, near the Ukrainian border in November 2022, was the consequence of a rocket launched from Ukrainian territory. The newspaper’s report stated, “This rocket possesses a range of 75 km to 90 km,” with a source emphasizing that, “At that time, Russian positions were situated in a location from which no Russian missile could reach Przewodow.” Insiders familiar with the investigation informed the newspaper that Poland had identified the missile as an S 300 5-W-55 air-defense missile. Initially, Poland’s foreign ministry attributed the missile to Russian origins. However, Poland’s President Andrzej Duda later exercised caution, stating that it remained uncertain who had fired the missile or where it had been manufactured. Ukraine has denied any involvement in the missile landing on its NATO-affiliated neighbour’s territory. During that period, both Warsaw and NATO initially perceived the missile as a drifted Ukrainian missile, alleviating concerns about an escalation of the conflict. Russia’s defense ministry explicitly stated, “Russian means of destruction did not target any locations near the Ukrainian-Polish state border.” This incident occurred subsequent to a significant number of Russian missile launches into Ukraine a few days prior, with some of them impacting the city of Lviv, located a mere 50 miles from the Polish border. At the time, President Zelenskyy remarked that any strike on a NATO member nation constituted a “significant escalation” and called for immediate “action.” Rzeczpospolita further reported that Ukrainian authorities had not provided any pertinent evidence to aid Polish investigators. The two countries have recently been locked in a war of words over Poland’s decision to introduce a unilateral ban on Ukrainian grain imports after the EU’s one expired. That led Kyiv to launch legal action against Poland – as well as Hungary and Slovakia – at the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
