 "Zelensky heads to London after Trump claims he hasn’t read US Peace Plan")
After US President Donald Trump accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of not reading the US authored peace proposal aimed at ending the war with Russia, Zelensky will meet the European allies in London on Monday.
“I’m a little bit disappointed that President Zelenskyy hasn’t yet read the proposal, that was as of a few hours ago. His people love it, but he hasn’t,” Trump claimed in an exchange with reporters before taking part in the Kennedy Centre Honours. The President added, “Russia is, I believe, fine with it, but I’m not sure that Zelenskyy’s fine with it. His people love it. But he isn’t ready.”
Zelensky will be welcomed by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in London along with German chancellor and French president to discuss the negotiations.
British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper is meanwhile expected in Washington on Monday. “The UK and US will reaffirm their commitment to reaching a peace deal in Ukraine,” the Foreign Office in London said, announcing Cooper’s visit.
The war escalates
Moscow has therefore continued the missile attack on Ukraine injuring at least nine people overnight Sunday to Monday, according to Ukrainian officials.
Trump believes that the peace proposal is in halt by Ukraine, which on the other hand is accepted by Moscow and they are ready to abide by it.
‘Ukraine ready to bring real peace’
Zelensky said he joined his negotiators for a “very substantive and constructive” call with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner during the Miami negotiations.
“Ukraine is committed to continuing to work honestly with the American side to bring about real peace,” Zelensky said on Telegram, adding that the parties agreed “on the next steps and the format of the talks with America”.
Wiktoff’s meeting with Putin
Witkoff and Kushner met Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin last week and discussed the peace plan for several hours. Moscow rejected some parts of the proposal and admitted that they are not ready to compromise on territory.
French President Emmanuel Macron ahead of Monday’s talks slammed what he called Russia’s “escalatory path”.
“We will continue these efforts with the Americans to provide Ukraine with security guarantees, without which no robust and lasting peace will be possible,” Macron wrote on X.

Trump has been cascading on his stance related to the four year long war, as US wants Ukraine to give up land that Russia has not been able to acquire in return for Kyiv’s promise to join NATO.
