Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday called for a “durable” peace in Ukraine following several hours of talks with French President Emmanuel Macron.
According to a Guardian report, Zelenskyy emphasised the role of global leaders in advancing negotiations.
“During our several-hour talks, @EmmanuelMacron and I assessed a great many details. The main focus was on negotiations to end the war and on security guarantees,” Zelenskyy said.
“Peace must become truly durable. The war must end as soon as possible. Much now depends on the involvement of every leader. We will also be speaking with other leaders today. Thank you!” he added.
Meanwhile, Zelenskyy said he and Macron used the meeting to speak with several European leaders, US peace envoy Steve Witkoff, and Ukrainian Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council Rustem Umerov, head of Ukrainian delegation meeting US officials in Florida.
“Together with French President @EmmanuelMacron and with the participation of UK Prime Minister @Keir_Starmer, we just spoke with the head of Ukrainian delegation Rustem Umerov and US President’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff following the Ukraine-U.S. delegations’ meeting in Florida. It was an important briefing, and we agreed to discuss more details in person—our teams will coordinate schedules for possible further contacts,” Zelenskyy posted on X.
Earlier in the day Zelenskyy said tough issues remain unresolved following US-Ukrainian talks in Florida, as he and other Ukrainian officials toured Europe to rally allies while US peace envoy Steve Witkoff headed to Moscow to brief the Kremlin.
