London: Britain’s broadcast regulator says it’s investigating email hacking at Rupert Murdoch’s Sky News channel.
A spokesman for regulator Ofcom says that the inquiry follows the news station’s admission that it authorised journalists to hack into people’s email accounts on two separate occasions. Sky News insists that the computer breaches were carried out in the public interest.
The Ofcom spokesman said Monday that “we’re investigating issues that have been raised.”
He declined to go into further detail and spoke anonymously in line with department policy.
Possible penalties range from formal reprimands to fines or even the suspension of Sky News’ broadcasting license.
