According to Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken discussed cooperation with the new Syrian administration on Saturday to ensure a smooth completion of the transition period.
During the phone call, Fidan reiterated Ankara’s stance against allowing the Kurdish YPG militia to seek refuge in Syria, a ministry spokesperson stated.
Meanwhile, Blinken emphasized the importance of supporting a Syrian-led and Syrian-owned political process that prioritizes human rights and fosters an inclusive and representative government, according to a statement from the U.S. State Department.
Blinken and Fidan also discussed preventing terrorism from endangering the security of Turkey and Syria, the statement said.
