Police in Punjab province, Pakistan, announced on Tuesday that they had identified the terrorist killed in a gunfight with them as a major TTP member who had carried out a rocket attack on an army camp in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province last week. About 200 km from Lahore, in the Chiniot area, Punjab police’s Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) shot and killed two TTP militants on Saturday. Ghazanfar Nadim, also known as Khalid Habib, was identified as one of the TTP militants and had a PKR 50 lakh bounty on his head. The other terrorist who was killed was identified by the authorities on Tuesday as Younas, a prominent member of the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). “Younas was wanted by the Dera Ismail Khan police for his involvement in several cases of terrorism in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He was also involved in the attack on Pakistan Army Camp at Shikai. Apart from this, his record includes communal target killings and high-profile kidnappings,” the CTD said in a statement. The bombing of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) building in Faisalabad, approximately 130 km away from Lahore, was planned and executed by the other TTP militant, Nadim. A potent car-borne improvised explosive device detonation occurred in 2011 outside the ISI building in the Faisalabad civil-lines area, resulting Pakistan 25 fatalities and 100 injuries. “Nadim was a key commander of the banned TTP in Punjab province. He was also involved in 11 major terror activities, including attacks on Shia Muslims in the country in which 50 people were killed,” the CTD said, adding that he had been absconding since 2011.
