After constantly attacking him and endorsing his rival, US President Donald Trump on Wednesday confirmed a meeting with New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani at the White House.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he will host Mamdani at White Houst on Friday.
“Communist Mayor of New York City, Zohran ‘Kwame’ Mamdani, has asked for a meeting. We have agreed that this meeting will take place at the Oval Office on Friday, November 21st. Further details to follow!” Trump said in a post.
Throughout the campaign, Mamdani had thrashed Trump for his anti-immigrant agenda and sending National Guards and military to cities like Los Angeles and Portland. New York City is widely believed to be the next on Trump’s agenda.
What will Trump & Mamdani discuss?
Mamdani is set to address cost-of-living crisis in New York City.
“I want to just speak plainly to the president about what it means to actually stand up for New Yorkers and the way in which New Yorkers are struggling to afford this city,” Mamdani told MS Now.
Previously, Mamdani said the outreach was part of his commitment to “address the affordability crisis” in New York.
Previously, Mamdani has criticised Trump and pointed that prices have risen in Trump’s second term.
“The president ran a campaign where he spoke about a promise to deliver cheaper groceries, a promise to reduce the cost of living. We are seeing his actions and that of his administration in Washington leading to the exact opposite effect for New Yorkers,” said Mamdani.
