US President Donald Trump is set to address the nation on Thursday night, offering what the White House describes as an important update on the ongoing conflict with Iran, as tensions continue to escalate in the region.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced the address in a post on X, stating: “TUNE IN: Tomorrow night at 9PM ET, President Trump will give an Address to the Nation to provide an important update on Iran.”
The announcement comes as the US-Israeli conflict with Iran enters its second month, with growing public concern and recent polling indicating rising disapproval of the military campaign.
Deployment of US troops in Iran to secure uranium
According to reports, the administration is considering the deployment of US troops into Iran to secure the country’s highly enriched uranium.
Removing the uranium stockpile would be one of the “most complicated special operations in history,” said Mick Mulroy, a former deputy assistant secretary of defence for the Middle East.
Such a mission would likely involve elite special operations forces tasked with extracting radioactive material, potentially placing American personnel deep inside Iranian territory and at risk from missile and drone attacks.

Military activity has already intensified across the region. On Tuesday, US forces struck an Iranian city linked to one of the country’s major nuclear facilities.
The Isfahan Nuclear Energy Center, previously targeted by US B-2 bombers and a submarine, is believed by analysts to house a significant portion of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile.
At the same time, diplomatic signals remain mixed. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said. “We have had no negotiations with America in these thirty-one days.”
“What has occurred is the submission of a negotiation request, accompanied by a set of proposals from America, which has reached us through certain intermediaries, including Pakistan,” he added.
Iran denies talks with US
Despite Tehran’s denial of formal talks, US officials suggest communication channels remain open through mediators. Trump has also indicated in recent days that he is looking to strike a deal with Iran and potentially conclude the conflict within weeks.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth underscored the urgency of the moment, saying the “upcoming days will be decisive.”
Iran war to end in 2-3 weeks: Trump
President Donald Trump said the United States could end its military attacks on Iran within two to three weeks and Tehran did not have to make a deal as a prerequisite for the conflict to wind down.
“We’ll be leaving very soon,” Trump told reporters at the White House on Tuesday, saying the exit could take place “within two weeks, maybe two weeks, maybe three.”
US to step back from the Hormuz issue
Trump has indicated that responsibility for reopening the strait should not fall solely on the United States. He has argued that European nations, which depend heavily on the route for energy supplies, should take a leading role.
Publicly, Trump has suggested the US may step back from direct involvement. He has also urged allies to deploy naval forces to secure the waterway, though many have been reluctant to engage while the conflict continues.
He said he is not ready to withdraw US forces “quite yet,” but emphasised that other countries “have to come in and take care of it.”
