Working crew have officially begun the construction process of US President Donald Trump’s ‘big, beautiful ballroom’ worth $250 million by demolition the White House’s East Wing on Monday.
According to AFP journalists who were at the demolition site, a mechanical excavator tore apart part of the East Wing, leaving a tangle of broken masonry, rubble and steel wires.

“I am pleased to announce that ground has been broken on the White House grounds to build the new, big, beautiful White House Ballroom,” Trump said on Truth Social, adding that the East Wing is being “fully modernised as part of this process, and will be more beautiful than ever when it is complete!”
The president hosted college baseball players at the White House on Monday and said, “Right on the other side you have a lot of construction that you might hear occasionally.”
About the project
The construction of the ‘big, beautiful ballroom’ is the first major addition to the White House in more than a century.
Traditionally, US first ladies have maintained their offices in the East Wing, while the president conducts business from the West Wing. The couple resides together in the Executive Mansion.
While Trump claims that the East Wing is “completely separate from the White House itself,” it is linked to the main mansion by a covered colonnade.
Impact Shorts
More ShortsTrump claims the new 90,000-square-foot ballroom, which can accommodate up to 1,000 guests, is necessary for hosting large state dinners and other events that are currently held in tents.
The Republican leader recently held a dinner for the donors who are funding the ballroom’s construction, with the guest list including representatives from tech firms like Amazon, Apple, Meta, Google, Microsoft and Palantir and defence giant Lockheed Martin.
