US President Donald Trump on Thursday said he intends to halt migration from what he described as “third world countries,” making the announcement a day after an Afghan national allegedly shot two National Guard soldiers in Washington.
“I will permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries to allow the US system to fully recover,” Trump wrote in a social media post, adding that he also plans to overturn “millions” of admissions granted under Joe Biden and “remove anyone who is not a net asset to the United States.”
The statement came after one of the soldiers wounded in the shooting near the White House died of injuries. Following the incident, the government said it would reassess the permanent residency status of immigrants from 19 countries, including Afghanistan.
Reiterating his stance on immigration, Trump said his administration is working to permanently stop migration from “Third World countries” to help the US system “recover and reset.”
In a detailed post on Truth Social, he wrote: “I will permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries to allow the US system to fully recover, terminate all of the millions of Biden illegal admissions, including those signed by Sleepy Joe Biden’s Autopen, and remove anyone who is not a net asset to the United States, or is incapable of loving our Country, end all Federal benefits and subsidies to noncitizens of our Country, denaturalise migrants who undermine domestic tranquillity, and deport any Foreign National who is a public charge, security risk, or non-compatible with Western Civilisation.”
Trump said these measures would focus on illegal and “disruptive” populations, including those he claimed were admitted through an “unauthorised and unlawful Autopen approval process.”
The shooting near the White House, carried out by an Afghan refugee, was condemned by Trump as a “heinous assault” and “an act of terror.”
