As the race for the White House gets intense, Former US President Donald Trump said that he has decided on his vice presidential pick for the 2024 US Presidential Elections. He went on to mention that his running mate is “most likely” to be at the upcoming presidential debate against US President Joe Biden.
While speaking to NBC News during a campaign stop in Philadelphia, the business-mogul-turned politician said that he has the highly anticipated name in his mind. “They’ll be there,” Trump said when asked if the VP pick would accompany him during the debate. “I think we have a lot of people coming,” he added.
Earlier this month, Trump’s senior adviser Brian Hughes said in a statement that the campaign’s top criterion for selecting a running mate “is a strong leader who will make a great President for eight years after his next four-year term concludes.”
When will we get the name?
The proclamation from the former US President came during his stop at a local Philadelphia restaurant ahead of a rally. Trump maintained that he plans to announce the vice presidential candidate “right around the convention.”
“Maybe a little before, but could be at the convention. But we’ll have some great people.” the former reality TV star told NBC News. The Republican National Convention is an event in which Republican delegates from across the country will officially nominate the party’s nominees for president and vice president posts.
The convention is scheduled to be held on July 15-18 in Milwaukee. According to NBC News, sources suggested that the former president is zeroing in on Doug Burgum, JD Vance and Senator Marco Rubio, as possible top contenders for the spot.
