The Epstein files are back hogging global headlines and the US President Donald Trump is again in the spotlight over his alleged ties with the American financier and convicted child sex abuser. The newly released US Justice Department documents show that Trump flew on Jeffrey Epstein’s private jet multiple times in the 1990s, contradicting his public statements. An internal prosecutor’s email from January 2020 reviewed flight logs and reported that Trump was listed as a passenger on at least eight flights on Epstein’s plane between 1993 and 1996
The records reveal that several of these trips included other prominent figures: at least four flights also had Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell on board. In addition, the logs show Trump travelling with members of his family on some trips.
For example, the documents list Trump flying alongside his then-wife Marla Maples, daughter Tiffany Trump, and son Eric Trump on various flights.
According to the DOJ email, Trump was on eight Epstein plane flights from 1993–1996:
- The logs show that four of those flights also carried Ghislaine Maxwell, who is now serving a prison sentence for helping Epstein abuse underage girls.
- Passenger manifests list Trump’s Marla Maples, Tiffany Trump, and Eric Trump on several of the trips.
- On one 1993 flight, Trump and Epstein were the only listed passengers. On another flight, the only passengers were Trump, Epstein, and an unnamed 20-year-old woman whose name was redacted.
- Two additional flights each included two women who were later identified as possible witnesses in Ghislaine Maxwell’s case.
The email itself does not allege any wrongdoing by Trump. The prosecutor’s message simply notes the flight records; it explicitly states there was “no allegation in the prosecutor’s email that Trump had committed any crime”.

Trump continues to deny what records show
The newly publicised flight records directly conflict with Trump’s past statements. In 2024, Trump publicly denied ever flying on Epstein’s plane, writing on social media that he “was never on Epstein’s Plane, or at his ‘stupid’ Island”.
He has also downplayed any connection to Epstein, remarking at one point that other high-profile individuals who “innocently met Jeffrey Epstein years ago” were being unfairly publicized.
Trump said, “You probably have pictures being exposed of other people that innocently met Jeffrey Epstein years ago.”
The DOJ flight logs now show that Trump’s claim of never flying with Epstein was inaccurate: the records list him on Epstein’s aircraft at least eight times in the 1990s.
What DOJ said on Epstein files
The Justice Department itself has cautioned that not all allegations in the released files are reliable. In a statement, the DOJ said that some documents “contain untrue and sensationalist claims made against President Trump,” calling those claims “unfounded and false”.
The department said it released the records in compliance with a new congressional transparency law and added that any credible information about criminal conduct would have been acted on immediately. Federal officials pointed out that Trump has never been charged with any crime in relation to Epstein, and no such accusation appears in the flight records or email.
The Epstein-Trump debate
The flight-log revelations come amid a wave of document releases required by Congress. The DOJ has posted roughly 30,000 pages of Epstein-related records, with many redactions, as part of this disclosure mandate. His supporters, though correctly, emphasise that being named in these investigative files does not imply guilt.
In Trump’s case, the records show that he flew on the jet. This does not constitute any illegal activity on his part. Nevertheless, the disclosed records have intensified scrutiny of his past association with Epstein. In response, Trump’s camp has highlighted the DOJ’s own statements that the specific Trump-related allegations are baseless and “untrue”.
